Frequently Asked Questions
Indications: When the Fractional Laser Is Useful
Acne and Post-Traumatic Scars
The fractional CO2 laser is considered one of the most effective treatments for atrophic acne scars, including ice-pick, rolling and boxcar scars. In our experience, most patients see a significant improvement in skin texture over the course of 3-5 sessions.
Pigmentation and Photoaging
Sun spots (lentigines), melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation respond favourably to the treatment. The controlled vaporisation of the superficial layers evens out the complexion and restores radiance to the face, neck, décolletage and hands.
Wrinkles and Rejuvenation
The fractional laser is particularly effective for fine perioral and periocular wrinkles, expression lines and the age-related loss of tone and elasticity. The improvement becomes progressively apparent in the months following the session.
Enlarged Pores and Uneven Texture
The treatment is also effective in reducing enlarged pores and improving uneven skin texture, giving the skin a smoother and more uniform appearance.
How Many Sessions Are Needed
The number of sessions varies depending on the issue and the individual response. As a general rule, for acne scars a course of 3-5 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart is recommended; for skin pigmentation and photoaging 2-3 sessions may be enough. The results are progressive and continue to improve in the following months thanks to the ongoing production of new collagen. After the course is complete, annual maintenance sessions can help preserve the results achieved.
Fractional CO2 Laser in Cagliari: What to Expect
The fractional laser journey at Centro Eudermia is structured to ensure a safe and progressive result. Here are the main stages.
Before the session
In the 4 weeks before the fractional CO2 laser it is essential to avoid direct sun exposure on the areas to be treated and to suspend topical retinoids and exfoliating acids at least 7-10 days beforehand. The skin must be well hydrated. If you have a history of recurrent cold sores and the area to be treated includes the upper lip, mention it: antiviral prophylaxis is given.
The day of the treatment
The fractional laser session lasts 30-60 minutes depending on the extent of the area. After cleansing and the application of topical anaesthesia (45-60 minutes), the specialist performs the treatment. You feel a sensation of warmth with a slight tingling, manageable and well tolerated thanks to the anaesthesia and the integrated cooling systems. Immediately afterwards the skin looks reddened and slightly swollen, with the characteristic "grid" pattern that fades over the following 24-48 hours.
Recovery and aftercare
In the first 3-5 days the skin goes through a phase of micro-flaking: small crusts form and detach spontaneously. It is essential not to remove them manually. Specific soothing creams and rigorous SPF 50+ sun protection are applied. Make-up can be resumed once the flaking is complete. We recommend avoiding intense physical activity for 48-72 hours, sauna and steam bath for 2 weeks, and direct sun exposure for 4-6 weeks. The final result of the fractional CO2 laser becomes progressively apparent over the following 3-6 months, thanks to the ongoing production of new collagen.
