    Treatments

The approach to vitiligo combines several therapeutic modalities tailored to the type, extent and location.

    Specialist Assessment

Clinical examination, Wood's lamp analysis, classification of the type of vitiligo, evaluation of the extent (validated scales such as VASI), exclusion of other conditions and photographic documentation for monitoring over time.

    Topical Therapies

For localised forms, calcineurin inhibitors (tacrolimus, pimecrolimus) are particularly effective on the face and in sensitive areas; topical corticosteroids are used for limited courses. In recent years the new topical JAK inhibitors have been introduced.

    Phototherapy

Narrowband UVB phototherapy (NB-UVB 311 nm) is one of the reference treatments for non-segmental vitiligo with extensive areas involved. The face and trunk generally respond better than the hands and feet.

    Combined Approach and Support

The best result is often achieved by combining different modalities. We also recognise the psychological impact of the condition and take time to listen to patients and explain things clearly.

    Vitiligo in Children

About 50% of cases begin before the age of 20. In children the segmental form is common. The therapeutic approach is carefully tailored to age, with a preference for the gentler topical therapies (tacrolimus, pimecrolimus) over corticosteroids. Psychological support and family education are fundamental components of paediatric treatment.

    Daily Management

Sun protection: depigmented areas lack melanin and are more sensitive to burning. We recommend SPF 50+ with mineral filters, reapplied every 2 hours during exposure, combined with protective clothing.

Skincare and camouflage: gentle cleansers, intensive hydration, antioxidant ingredients. Cosmetic camouflage can provide an immediate aesthetic improvement.
