Paediatric Conditions We Treat
Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema)
Atopic dermatitis is the most common skin condition in childhood, with a prevalence of up to 20% in children. It presents as dry, red and itchy skin, with a distribution that varies with age: in newborns it predominates on the face and extensor surfaces, while in older children it affects the creases of the elbows and knees. Our approach combines personalised topical therapies, family education and a structured follow-up programme.
Skin Infections
Skin infections are common in childhood. Impetigo (a superficial bacterial infection), molluscum contagiosum (viral growths) and warts (caused by the human papillomavirus, HPV) are among the most frequent. Each requires a specific treatment, adapted to the child's age and the location of the lesions.
Nappy Rash and Cradle Cap
In the first year of life, nappy rash and seborrhoeic dermatitis (cradle cap) are frequent issues which, although generally benign, can worry parents and deserve specialist guidance for targeted treatment and proper prevention.
Haemangiomas and Vascular Lesions
Infantile haemangiomas (flat or raised) are congenital vascular lesions that require specialist assessment to determine the need for treatment and to monitor their natural progression.
Mole Monitoring
Monitoring moles in children is important, particularly for large congenital moles and atypical moles. We perform paediatric mole mapping with VIDIX technology, adapting the procedure to the child's age, and we give parents guidance on self-monitoring and sun protection.
Paediatric Psoriasis and Teenage Acne
Psoriasis can also appear in childhood with specific features, and requires a tailored therapeutic approach. Teenage acne, often underestimated, deserves prompt treatment to prevent permanent scars and the psychological impact at a particularly sensitive age.
Our Approach to the Paediatric Visit
The paediatric dermatology visit at Centro Eudermia follows a protocol designed to respect the needs of children and their families. The welcome is the first step: the child is put at ease in the clinic environment, with a way of communicating adapted to their age. This is followed by an in-depth conversation with the parents to gather the history of the condition, the triggering factors and the impact on family life.
The clinical examination is carried out gently and patiently, explaining every step to the child in simple language and actively involving them. When needed, VIDIX dermoscopy is performed as part of the examination with no discomfort for the young patient.
For the first paediatric visit we recommend bringing the child's health record (vaccination booklet) and any documentation from previous specialist visits.
At the end of the visit, the diagnosis is explained clearly to the parents, accompanied by a personalised treatment plan and detailed practical guidance for daily management at home.
Advice for Parents
Hygiene and Daily Care
Specific cleansers for children with a physiological pH, short lukewarm baths (no more than 10 minutes), patting the skin dry and daily moisturising with emollient creams designed for the paediatric age group.
Sun Protection
SPF 50+ sunscreen on all exposed areas, reapplied every 2 hours during sun exposure, combined with a hat and protective clothing. It is best to avoid direct exposure during the middle of the day (11am-4pm).
When to Consult a Specialist
Parents should consult a specialist when a skin rash does not improve within 7 days, when itching disturbs the child's sleep, when a lesion bleeds or becomes infected, when changes are observed in existing moles, or in the case of a fever associated with skin problems.
