"A person's lips are not a piece of clothing that goes out of fashion. They should be something in harmony with the face — very often they are nothing other than that same person's lips as they were when she was younger."
Most patients who come to Centro Eudermia already knowing the approach is conservative do not come to turn their lips into those of their favourite celebrity. They come to regain a little volume lost over the years. A natural lip filler, according to the centre's method, is a filler that moves the way lips move when you speak and eat: it does not stay rigid, and it does not look like the kind of "inflated" lips you often see.
Trends change: today "Russian lips" are fashionable, but there is no guarantee they will still be in demand in three or four years. Patients who chose an "out of fashion" filler style a few years ago can only change it with hyaluronidase — the medical enzyme able to selectively dissolve hyaluronic acid — and then re-inject differently. The fact that Centro Eudermia knows and keeps hyaluronidase available is also the reason lip filler should be done in a medical-dermatological setting: if needed, there is always a plan B.
There is also the deliberate "no". Some requests are declined as a clinical and philosophical choice: "lips like this actress because my boyfriend likes them that way" does not fit the centre's method. Before the session
In the 24 hours before lip filler it is advisable to avoid alcohol, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and aspirin) and supplements that thin the blood (high-dose omega-3, ginkgo biloba): all of these can increase the risk of bruising. Come to the session without lip make-up, or be prepared to have it removed at the clinic. If you have a history of recurrent cold sores, mention it during the preliminary consultation: in that case we prescribe an antiviral beforehand to prevent a flare-up.
During the lip filler
The lip filler session lasts 20-30 minutes. It begins with cleansing and the application of a topical anaesthetic for 15-20 minutes, which significantly reduces sensitivity in the area. The specialist performs the injections with a fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula, depending on the technique chosen during planning. Most lip fillers used already contain lidocaine, which further enhances the anaesthetic effect. During the treatment the volume is built up gradually: the specialist assesses the result in real time after each small dose, until the agreed goal is reached.
The first 48-72 hours
Immediately after lip filler, the lips look visibly fuller and more defined. In the first 24-48 hours some swelling (oedema) may be present that slightly amplifies the volume: this is normal and gradually subsides. Small bruises may appear at the injection points, especially along the edges: these resolve in 4-7 days. We recommend avoiding very hot food and drinking through a straw for the first 12 hours, intense exercise for 48 hours, saunas and steam rooms for a week, and not massaging the lips. Lip make-up can be resumed gently after 24 hours.
The definitive result at 2 weeks
The final result of lip filler is assessed at 14 days after the session, when the initial swelling has completely resolved and the hyaluronic acid has integrated into the tissue.
