    What is Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as aesthetic needling, is a skin stimulation technique that uses sterile micro-needles to create microchannels in the skin. These micro-stimuli activate the skin's natural regeneration processes, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin.

At Centro Eudermia in Cagliari we use the Dermastamp by Alfa Strumenti: an automatic electric pen with single-use sterile micro-needles (the tips: cartridges of 6 medical-grade steel micro-needles, engineered in length and spacing to optimise penetration and reduce invasiveness). It is a class IIa medical device (CE 0482). The needle length and the frequency of the micro-punctures are adjusted by the operator according to the area.

    Procedure

    How the treatment is performed

The treatment is carried out in the clinic in 4 stages:

    1. Cleansing of the skin. The optional topical anaesthetic can be applied at home before the session, for greater patient comfort.
    2. Performing the microneedling with the Dermastamp, adjusting the needle length and frequency according to the characteristics of the area to be treated and the goals.
    3. Optional application of active ingredients (hyaluronic acid, vitamins, peptides) immediately during the treatment to enhance the results.
    4. Application of soothing products and recommendations for aftercare.

Session duration: about 30-45 minutes, excluding the application of the topical anaesthetic (a further 30-45 minutes), which can be done at home for greater comfort.
Recommended number of sessions: no more than 2, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. In the case of scars, a higher number of sessions is recommended.

What to Expect After the Treatment

Microneedling is a well-tolerated treatment. In the hours afterwards, redness and slight skin sensitivity may appear, which resolve spontaneously within 24-48 hours.

    What to avoid

    • Direct sun exposure for 48-72 hours
    • Intense physical activity for 48-72 hours
    • Saunas and steam baths for 48-72 hours
    • Full-coverage make-up for 24 hours (then allowed)
    • Home scrubs and peels for 1 month

Sun exposure is permitted with SPF 50+ protection for 4-6 weeks after the treatment.

    Combination with Other Treatments

Microneedling is often integrated into personalised dermatological rejuvenation programmes. At Centro Eudermia we assess the optimal combination of techniques on a case-by-case basis.

Microneedling in Cagliari: What to Expect

The microneedling journey at Centro Eudermia in Cagliari is structured to ensure a progressive and safe result. Here is what to expect, from preparation to the final result.

    Before the microneedling session

In the 2-4 weeks before microneedling it is recommended to avoid direct sun exposure on the areas to be treated and to suspend the use of topical retinoids (tretinoin, high-concentration retinol) and exfoliating acids (glycolic, salicylic) at least 7-10 days beforehand. Come to the session without make-up. If you have a history of recurrent cold sores and the area to be treated includes the upper lip, mention it during the consultation: antiviral prophylaxis is prescribed.

    The day of the treatment

The microneedling session at Centro Eudermia lasts about 30-45 minutes, excluding the application of the topical anaesthetic (a further 30-45 minutes), which can be done at home for greater patient comfort. After cleansing, the specialist performs the microneedling with the Dermastamp, adjusting the needle length and frequency according to the area to be treated. The micro-needles create controlled microchannels in the skin, activating the natural tissue repair processes and the synthesis of collagen and elastin. During the session the specific active ingredients are applied (hyaluronic acid, vitamins, biomimetic peptides), which are delivered immediately through the freshly created microchannels.

The first 24-72 hours after microneedling

Immediately after microneedling the skin appears red, similar to a mild sunburn, with a sensation of warmth and tightness. This erythema gradually subsides over the 24-48 hours afterwards. Fine flaking may appear over the following 3-5 days: this is normal and indicates skin renewal. It is recommended not to wash the face for the first 6-12 hours, to avoid full-coverage make-up for 24 hours, to avoid strenuous exercise for 48-72 hours, saunas and steam baths for a week, home scrubs and peels for a month, and direct sun exposure for 4-6 weeks. SPF 50+ sun protection is mandatory.

    Progressive results and maintenance

The results of microneedling are progressive: already after the first session you notice a "glow" effect and smoother, brighter skin. True skin renewal, however, takes time: the synthesis of new collagen becomes visibly apparent after about two months and continues for at least another six months. For most indications (fine wrinkles, loss of firmness, enlarged pores) no more than 2 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart are sufficient. In the case of acne scars, a higher number of sessions is recommended, in courses of 4-6 sessions, possibly combined with TCA Cross peeling for deep ice-pick scars. Periodic maintenance sessions help preserve and improve the results over time. Microneedling in Cagliari is often integrated with biorevitalisation and with chemical peel in combined protocols.

Dr. Guicciardi was very precise and professional. I had mole mapping and afterwards two CO2 laser sessions. Highly recommended.
